In our physiotherapy practice, neurological patients are treated holistically and according to their needs and wishes. Through the assessment, therapeutic goals are established in joint collaboration with the therapist, or even with the patient’s family members, if necessary. A personalized and scientifically documented treatment plan is then put in place.

Patients strengthen their fine and gross motor skills in order to improve their functionality and independence in activities of daily living. Through the treatments, they will reacquaint themselves with their body and shall be able to face their illness with courage.

Common conditions in which neurological physiotherapy has been applied with positive results are the following:

  • Stroke
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Polyradiculitis (Guillain-Barré syndrome)
  • Head injuries
  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Injuries, Peripheral Nervous System Disorders
  • Dementia (prevention and rehabilitation of motor deficits)
  • Hemiplegia
  • Tetraplegia
  • Paraplegia

Individual therapeutic objectives

  • Individual therapeutic objectives
  • Mobility improvement
  • Improvement of upper and lower limb skills
  • Training in daily activities
  • Improvement of self-service
  • Retraining – improvement of the quality of walking
  • Management of muscle tone
  • Balance improvement
  • Coordination improvement
  • Breathing improvement
  • Reduction/management of painful symptoms
  • Improvement in focus and sensation
  • Support for the patient and their family

How will these objectives be achieved?

PNF method – Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation is a method of treating deficits of the central nervous and musculoskeletal system. PNF therapy promotes the facilitation of motor patents in order to achieve the maximum possible enhancement of functionality in daily life.

Bobath Method

The Bobath Method approach promotes the learning of motor patterns through effective sensorimotor control in a variety of environments. Bobath is characterized by the application of specific clinical methodologies, treatment techniques and management strategies. At the same time, it involves the decision-making process required for the process of selecting the appropriate technique for each patient.

The individualized treatment goals through these and other methods we use for the neurological rehabilitation of our patients are achieved mainly due to the phenomenon of neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity (or more simply brain plasticity) is the ability of the nervous system to adapt structurally and functionally to new situations, such as the presence of an injury or damage (e.g. a stroke). The brain gives the organism a fertile ground to change its activity according to new data in response to a new endogenous or exogenous stimulus. The training and treatment of patients through appropriate tactile, proprioceptive, verbal, visual, etc. stimuli cannot be done indiscriminately and without knowledge. It requires experience in the subject and appropriate clinical reasoning by the physiotherapist so as not to impede the process.
